I am able to treat a wide variety of people and my treatment techniques include:

The areas that I feel I can help best with are:

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue massage is a manual therapy technique used to treat musculoskeletal issues by using sustained pressure and deep strokes to release tension in the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues. This breaks up scar tissue that forms following an injury to the muscle, increases blood flow, reduces inflammation and promotes faster healing.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is an invasive technique where a fine stainless steel acupunture needle is inserted into the skin and muscle to release trigger points. When a trigger point is stimulated by the needle the client may feel a twitch sensation as the body reacts by producing a chemical reaction, encouraging the taut muscle to relax and release the tension held.

Myofascial Trigger Point

Myofascial Trigger Point

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy also known as 'Trigger Point Therapy' refers to ther treatment of myofascial trigger points that are found in fascia and muscles. Trigger points are hypersensitive points found in the belly of a taut band of skeletal muscle. Trigger Points can produce pain in a local area or referred pain. They are often associated with chronic musculoskeletal disorders.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy Massage is a specialist technique that uses massage strokes to assist women with the specific conditions that arise from pregnancy. Throughout the length of a pregnancy women can experience many physical and emotional changes as the body adapts and changes to accommodate the new life growing in her womb. Massage can assist with:

  • Increased relaxation and reduced anxiety
  • Reduction in oedema (swelling)
  • Eases muscular conditions related to pregnancy
  • Stabilises hormonal changes and blood pressure

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a light touch technique intended to stimulate the lymphatic system particularly the lymph nodes, and increase the rhythmic pulsation of the lymphatic channels. The Dr Vodder Lymphatic Drainage technique was originally developed in the 1930s and consists of four main strokes - stationary circles, scoops, pumps and rotary techniques. MLD can be used for:

  • Rerouting stagnant lymph flow
  • Increasing blood flow in deep and superficial veins
  • Preventative treatment
  • Post-operative rehabilitation treatment
  • Post-traumatic edema
  • Post-surgical edema
  • Pallative care

MLD has optimal results when combined with the other elements of Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT).

Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial Cupping is a manual therapy technique that involves the gliding of negatively pressurised cups over the body with the assistance of massage cream and can be accompanied by joint mobilisation. It is a very different technique to traditional cupping as importantly the desired affect is NOT marking the skin.

Infant Massage Training

Ainslie Davies demonstrating infant massage to a class

The infant massage course is a course that I teach to parents (or caregivers) and as a therapist I do not perform any strokes on the child. In those early stages of a child’s life it is really important for parents to be able to bond with their child. Touch is a baby's most developed sense and infant massage combines the physical touch and bonding experience with physical, emotional and mental health benefits. More information...

These benefits are not only for the infant receiving massage but also for the parents. These include:

For the baby:

  • Multiple physical benefits - increases blood and lymphatic circulation, strengthen immune system, improved pulmonary (lung) function and importantly vagal activity. Vagus activity affects digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems and becomes stimulated during massage.
  • Improved sleep (affects the serotonin and melatonin production which are the hormones that regulate sleep cycles).
  • Helps relieve early digestive issues (wind, colic and constipation) - massage of the abdomen can help stimulate waste elimination.
  • Enhance emotions and improve mood by increasing dopamine levels. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter
  • Enhance motor development - we are born with little awareness of body structure. Massage improves left and right communication and enhances body awareness.

For the parents:

  • Promotes bonding and trust - enhances the connection between infant and parent. It is advantageous for Dads particularly who might be less confident and uncertain how they can be involved in their baby's care.
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Postnatal Depression - provides a postive maternal interaction which helps reduce stress and produce oxytocin

Over a couple of hourly sessions I will teach the strokes and the knowledge behind them but it is the parents who will perform the techniques on their own child. Classes are not only limited to parents of infants but can include pregnant women and dads to be as they can learn on dolls while they wait for their precious bundle to arrive.

The Infant Massage Information Service (IMIS) has recommended learning infant massage over 4x1 hour sessions. The structure and timing of each session is variable as babies can be unpredictable. If a child is not interested in receiving massage at the session then the parent/s can practice techniques on a demonstration doll and try again at home in their own time.

ABOUT ME

Ainslie Davies, Remedial masseuse

Ainslie Davies (Heathcote)
Member of AMT (Australian Massage Association)
Diploma of Remedial Massage - Evolve College 2018

Hi, my name is Ainslie Davies and I am a qualified remedial massage therapist. I was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia and grew up in a very health conscious family and therefore have always had an interest in the human body and how it works. My sister is a naturopath and nutritionist.

During my childhood and teenage years I was regularly treated by a very gifted massage therapist for my scoliosis and leg length difference, so I personally know, and have felt the benefits of remedial massage therapy.

Since completing my diploma of Remedial Massage in 2018 I have worked in multidisciplinary clinics alongside chiropractors, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals and have seen how each modality plays a role in the health and wellness of an individual. I also have previous experience in the dental industry, which has given me extra understanding of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and other jaw conditions.

My family

I really love my work, and it’s so satisfying to help improve a patient’s quality of life. I love getting to know my patients, learning about their lives and trying to help find a solution to resolve or as much as possible relieve the severity of their issues. Remedial massage for me is not just about treating the pain and the symptoms, but also working to find a ‘remedy’ or solution for the problem.

I am married to Scott and we have a daughter, Arielle. We are committed Christians who worship at Providence City. I love being around my friends and family. In my spare time I enjoy being physically active with dancing, a tennis hit or having a chilled night with a movie (bit of a movie buff).
